Rock Identifier - Terms

Terms of Use for Rock Identifier

Effective date: August 10, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Furkan Kaya, an independent developer ("we", "us", "the Developer"), governing your use of the Rock Identifier iOS application ("the app"). By downloading, installing or using the app you accept these Terms and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

1. What the app is

Rock Identifier is an educational and hobbyist tool. It uses artificial intelligence to suggest what a rock, mineral, crystal, gemstone or fossil in your photograph is likely to be, shows a confidence score for each suggestion, gives a rough indication of what such a specimen might be worth, and provides an encyclopedia of reference material.

2. Identification results are estimates, not expert opinions

Identification is performed by an artificial intelligence model working from a single photograph. It can be wrong, including confidently wrong. Photographs cannot show density, hardness, streak, fluorescence, internal structure or chemistry — the properties a specialist relies on. Treat every result as a starting point for your own research, never as a determination.

Rock Identifier is not a gemmological, geological, mineralogical or scientific certification service, and no result it produces is an appraisal, a certificate, a grading report or an authentication.

3. Value estimates

Estimated value ranges are rough, non-binding indications of typical retail prices for broadly similar specimens. They are not appraisals and carry no guarantee. Do not rely on them for buying, selling, insuring, taxing, valuing an estate or settling a dispute. For any transaction that matters, obtain a written valuation from a qualified, independent gemmologist or appraiser.

4. Safety

Some naturally occurring minerals are genuinely dangerous. Specimens may contain asbestiform fibres, arsenic, lead, mercury, antimony, copper or radioactive elements, and some produce hazardous dust when cut, ground, sanded or drilled.

  • Never taste, lick, chew or ingest a specimen, and never inhale dust from one.
  • Never cut, grind, saw, sand or drill an unidentified specimen dry.
  • Keep small specimens away from children and animals.
  • Because the app may misidentify a specimen, never rely on it to decide that something is safe to handle, heat, work or wear.

You are solely responsible for how you handle, work with, store and dispose of any specimen. If you have any doubt, treat the specimen as hazardous and consult a professional.

5. Folklore, beliefs and health

The app contains cultural and historical material about traditional beliefs associated with certain stones. This material is presented for cultural interest only. It is not medical, psychological or therapeutic advice, and nothing in the app diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any condition. Never delay or replace professional medical care because of anything you read in the app.

6. Collecting responsibly and lawfully

Collecting rocks, minerals and fossils is regulated in many places, and is prohibited in national parks, protected areas, private land and archaeological sites in many countries. Nothing in the app is permission or encouragement to collect anywhere. You are responsible for complying with all laws that apply to you, including laws on protected sites, protected fossils, export and cultural property.

7. Subscriptions, pricing and cancellation

  • Browsing the encyclopedia, the Stone of the Day, your saved collection and your wishlist are free and require no subscription.
  • AI identification (scanning) requires an active Rock Identifier subscription. There is no free trial and no free scans.
  • Subscriptions are offered on a weekly and a yearly auto-renewing basis. The exact price for your country and currency is always shown in the app before you confirm the purchase, and that displayed price prevails.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
  • The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of that period.
  • You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
  • Purchases are made from and processed by Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with its policies; we cannot issue refunds ourselves. You may request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Prices may change. Any change will apply only to future billing periods and will be handled in the manner Apple requires, which may include asking you to consent before the change takes effect.

8. Fair use of identification

Because each identification consumes paid AI capacity, subscriptions include a fair-use limit on the number of identifications per day. The current limit is shown in the app when you reach it. We may adjust the limit to keep the service sustainable and to prevent abuse. You may not use scripts, automation, emulators or modified builds of the app to submit identifications, and you may not resell or redistribute access to the identification service.

9. Your content and the licence you give us

You keep all rights to the photographs you submit. You confirm that you have the right to submit each photograph and that doing so does not infringe anyone's rights. You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to process and transmit that photograph solely to produce your identification result — including sending it to our AI provider — and for no other purpose. This licence ends when the request completes. We do not store your photographs and we do not use them for training.

You must not submit content that is unlawful, that infringes someone's rights, that depicts another person without their consent, or that you are otherwise not entitled to share.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app except to the extent this cannot lawfully be restricted; not to circumvent or attempt to circumvent the subscription check, the device attestation, or any usage limit; not to interfere with or place unreasonable load on our servers; and not to use the app for any unlawful purpose.

11. Third-party services

The app relies on Apple (distribution, in-app purchases, App Attest), Google (the Gemini AI model that performs the identification) and Adapty (subscription management). Your use of the app is also subject to those providers' terms. We are not responsible for their services, and their availability is outside our control. Details of what data reaches them are in our Privacy Policy.

12. Availability and changes

We may add, change, suspend or discontinue features, including the identification service, at any time. If we permanently discontinue a paid feature, Apple's refund policies apply to any unused portion of a subscription. The app requires an internet connection for identification; the encyclopedia and your collection work offline.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that identifications will be correct, that value estimates will reflect any real market, or that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or any financial loss arising from a purchase, sale, valuation, collecting decision or handling decision you made in reliance on the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

15. Termination

These Terms apply for as long as you use the app. We may suspend or terminate your access to the identification service if you breach these Terms or abuse the service. You may end this agreement at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the app.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Ankara, Türkiye have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction whose consumer law grants you protections that cannot be set aside by contract, those protections continue to apply and you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.

17. Terms required by Apple

The following apply where the app is obtained through Apple's App Store:

  • These Terms are concluded between you and the Developer only, and not with Apple. The Developer, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
  • Apple grants you a non-transferable licence to use the app on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
  • Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to any warranty are the Developer's sole responsibility.
  • The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession and use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or privacy legislation.
  • If a third party claims that the app or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, the Developer, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The current version is always published on this page with its effective date. Continuing to use the app after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
